Our Strengths
Investments in transportation infrastructure projects and businesses surrounding transportation
Since participating as one of the largest shareholders in Australia's Gold Coast Light Rail PPP*3 project, Marubeni has been expanding its footprint in PPP transportation, such as through the Sydney Metro Northwest Project in Australia and the Road PPP project in Mexico. Through strategic collaboration with international partners, we are developing and improving our transportation infrastructure portfolio in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, in addition to current regions. We will continue to accumulate quality assets and enhance the value of our existing businesses.
We are also working to develop new businesses such as TOD and transportation payment businesses using facial recognition technology, leveraging the knowledge and experience we have acquired through our existing transportation infrastructure business, our networks with transportation operators, and other experience.

Top-level Japanese player in the water business
Marubeni has a diversified business portfolio in the water business sector spanning from water supply and wastewater treatment to BOT*4, EPC, BOO seawater desalination facilities*5, the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants, as well as water and wastewater treatment consulting services in Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. Marubeni is a top-level Japanese player in the water business in terms of the scale of its water supply assets, one of the highest among Japanese companies. In anticipation of the growing demand for water infrastructure and diversification of water issues due to the increase in the world’s population and ongoing urbanization, we aim to further develop our businesses with the goal of contributing to the achievement of sustainable society.
4 BOT: Build, Operate, and Transfer; projects in which plants are built and operated temporarily before the assets are turned over to government agencies.
5 BOO: Build, Own, and Operate; projects in which plants are built, owned, and operated temporarily before the assets are dismantled and removed.
Investments in social infrastructure-related projects
We develop and operate PPP projects for social infrastructure (such as hospitals, schools, dormitories, public facilities, stadiums, and arenas) that support the foundations of everyday life in Japan and overseas. Domestically, we are participating in the redevelopment and operation of the Todoroki Park Project in Kawasaki City. Overseas, we aim to contribute to local communities by developing projects that meet regional specifications, mainly in Australia, Europe, and the Middle East, together with strategic partners in Japan and abroad.
Investments in energy infrastructure projects
Through collaboration with strategic partners all over the world, Marubeni is expanding its investments in a wide range of energy infrastructure assets, including gas distribution and retail, and marine energy projects such as FPSO*6 and offshore platforms in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa. Marubeni will continue to strive for optimization of regional energy supply, aiming to evolve into a comprehensive utility service provider centered on gas distribution business.

Building circular economies through waste recycling business
We are working on the circular economy business to solve social issues. Circular economy businesses, which view waste as a resource to be recycled and reused, make a significant contribution to the realization of a sustainable society, including decarbonization. Specifically, we focus on the production and sale of biomethane from agricultural and livestock residues, the production and sale of fuels from waste, waste power generation, and the recovery and recycling of carbon dioxide from the exhaust gases generated by factories and power plants.
A top-class track record among general trading companies in EPC projects & trade in railway industry
Marubeni has a top-class track record in EPC projects and trade in the field of railway systems, in many regions throughout the world. At the same scale, we also provide comprehensive functionality to our customers by combining our expertise in high-quality EPC & trading financing. Going forward, we will continue to promote EPC for railway systems and provide EPC services together with operation and maintenance as a package.
