Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) has joined a residential real estate development project (hereinafter, the “Project”) in Pune, Maharashtra, India, undertaken by Kolte-Patil Integrated Townships Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kolte-Patil Developers Ltd. (hereinafter, “KPDL”), a leading real estate developer based out of Maharashtra. Marubeni will participate in the Project by subscribing non-convertible debentures issued by KPDL. This will be Marubeni’s fifth real estate development project in India.
Pune is one of India’s leading cities, with a population of approximately 7 million*, and has long been a hub for the automotive and machinery industries. In recent years, incentives offered by the State of Maharashtra to the IT industry have accelerated the entry of leading global IT companies and unicorn companies, and going forward, housing demand is expected to grow further.
Located near the Hinjawadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park (Asia’s biggest IT hub), this Project is a core component of the Life Republic township; with approximately 900 residential units, it is the largest planned development in the district being developed by KPDL—where commercial facilities, educational institutions, and green spaces are being systematically organized to provide a high level of convenience.
Building on its domestic real estate platform, Marubeni has been advancing residential real estate development in growth markets such as India and Southeast Asia, while also pursuing rental housing investments and asset management in some of the world’s largest real estate markets, including the United States and Australia. In India, Marubeni has undertaken four residential real estate development and sales projects aimed at the middle-income segment in Pune and Mumbai, with sales expanding steadily, driven by population growth and economic development.
Marubeni will continue to contribute to the supply of quality housing in India, a key pillar of its overseas real estate development business. Looking ahead, Marubeni aims to expand into other promising cities such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru, broaden its middle-income residential real estate development and sales activities, and pursue multi-layered initiatives that include social infrastructure development as well as new commercial channels and services.
