Marubeni’s Subsidiary Launches an Unlisted Open-End Real Estate Fund

Jun. 23. 2014
Marubeni Corporation

Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”) has announced to launch an unlisted open-end real estate fund. Marubeni Asset Management (“MAM”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marubeni, is assigned to operate the fund which is planned to initiate within a year.

The real estate asset management field, such as private REIT and J-REIT, is set as one of our vital business fields. We have been taking an active part in expanding our asset scale since December 2003, when United Urban Investment Corporation (“UUR”) became listed. Together with the Marubeni subsidiary, Japan REIT Advisors Co., as an asset manager, UUR has grown its portfolio asset size to approximately JPY 500 billion as of June this year.

The market scale for private funds has surpassed JPY 700 billion and has been continuously expanding since 2010, resulting from the diversifying demands of investors. This alternative real estate fund is independent of market conditions and therefore, allows offers of new investment opportunities for investors such as pension funds and institutional investors that seek stability with a long-term investment horizon.

This private REIT sets its target on integrated offices, buildings for commercial use, hotels, residential, etc. As such, we aim at a consecutive growth by our expertise in having a strong and broad network, as one of the Japanese premier general trading companies. Together with the UUR and the private REIT, Marubeni and MAM will strive to contribute to the further growth of the real estate securitization, along with offering topnotch investment opportunities for investors.
