Machine tools are essential equipment for all types of manufacturing industries. The global machine tool market is estimated to be worth approximately $90–100 billion (USD) and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.0% between 2025 and 2030. Europe has the world’s second-largest machine tool market, and within the region, Switzerland and Austria in particular have developed industries for products such as luxury watches, medical devices, and automobiles, all of which require precision machining.

For more than 50 years since the establishment of its predecessor companies*, TOLUS has been handling machine tools from leading Japanese manufacturers in Switzerland and Austria, achieving cumulative sales of over 5,000 units, primarily to industries that demand ultra-fine and high-precision machining. In addition to supplying machine tools, TOLUS has established a strong position in both countries by leveraging its engineering capabilities to design and propose automation systems that enable labor savings and greater efficiency.

For over 70 years, Marubeni has been selling Japanese-made machine tools, which boast outstanding technological capabilities, in countries around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Vietnam, Brazil, and India. In response to the growing need for automation and labor savings in the manufacturing sector, Marubeni has also spent many years strengthening its engineering capabilities and providing high value-added solutions that optimize production lines. By sharing the expertise accumulated in each region and deepening collaboration across its businesses, Marubeni has developed and expanded the foundation of its business platform in the machine tool sector.

Under its Mid-Term Management Strategy GC2027, Marubeni is focusing on strategic, platform-type businesses that combine growth domains, high added value, and scalability. Through this Acquisition, Marubeni will leverage the expertise and proposal capabilities it has cultivated to provide optimal machine tools and engineering services to Europe’s manufacturing industries, which produce high value-added products such as high-end items and precision equipment. In recent years, the spread of generative AI has driven increasing demand for machining of parts related to AI data centers and next-generation semiconductors. In addition, with the advancement of physical AI, demand is expected to grow for high-precision components such as joint parts for robots. Marubeni aims to capture the rising demand for high-precision machining technologies that serve as the technological foundation supporting these cutting-edge hardware fields. By continuing to deliver Japan’s world-class machine tool technologies globally, Marubeni will contribute to enhancing its customers’ productivity, promoting technological innovation, and advancing the development of the global manufacturing industry.

*The predecessors of TOLUS, Suvema and Newemag, were founded in 1974 and 1975, respectively.
