The Marubeni Foundation (Chairman: Jun Horie), a private sector social welfare grant-awarding organization funded by Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”), has finalized the list of grant recipients for social welfare initiatives for FY2025 (the 51st round of grants).
The Marubeni Foundation was established in 1974 and has continued to provide grants to an annual total of 100 million yen since FY1975. In recent years, due to changes in economic and social conditions, the number of grant applications has increased year-over-year. To better respond to these societal needs and the wishes of as many people as possible, Marubeni and the Marubeni Foundation expanded the annual grant total to 300 million yen to coincide with the landmark 50th anniversary of the Marubeni Foundation in FY2024.
Grant recipients were deliberated based on various factors, such as activity status, concrete outcome of the project, and degree of urgency. Leveraging the unique benefits of issuing grants using private sector funds, the Marubeni Foundation actively selected projects outside the general scope of governmental reach, as well as those that contribute to improving the workplaces and operational efficiency for those engaged in social welfare.
Financing for Marubeni Foundation grants is primarily handled through a cooperative framework between individuals and Marubeni. The funding is comprised of financial contributions from Marubeni and income from asset management; donations by individuals to the 100 Yen Club, a fundraising organization with a voluntary membership comprised of Marubeni Corporation and Marubeni Group executives, employees, and alumni, which are then matched by donations made by Marubeni Corporation; and Marubeni Gallery admission proceeds. The Marubeni Group and the Marubeni Foundation will continue to work towards the realization of a society which embodies the idea that “where there are people, there are dreams.”
