Steelmaking coal is the raw material required for ironmaking using the blast furnace method,* while steel is the most widely used material in the world and is essential for the development of society. Global demand for steel is expected to expand in line with population growth and economic growth, and blast furnace ironmaking will continue to play an important role in meeting this demand. In addition, the high-quality steelmaking coal produced at both mines operated by Jellinbah Group will also contribute to reducing environmental impacts.

In its Mid-Term Management Strategy (GC2027), Marubeni outlines a resource investment plan that emphasizes increasing its access to high-quality resources while improving cost competitiveness. Since Marubeni invested in Jellinbah Group as a 33.3% shareholder in 2007, it has contributed to the stable supply of high-quality steelmaking coal to customers around the world through the stable operation of both mines. This additional investment will increase Marubeni’s involvement in Jellinbah Group, a core company in the steelmaking coal business. This will further enhance the operational efficiency of both highly cost-competitive mines and ensure the continued stable production of high-quality steelmaking coal. Marubeni will continue to provide a stable supply of high-quality steelmaking coal to customers worldwide.
