Additional Investment in Senoko Energy Pte. Ltd. in Singapore
Jun. 25, 2025
Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”), together with Kyushu Electric Power Company, Kansai Electric Power Company, and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “other Japanese Shareholders”), previously jointly acquired shares in Lion Power (2008) Pte. Ltd. (hereinafter, “Lion Power”), a holding company of Senoko Energy Pte. Ltd. (hereinafter, “Senoko”), which operates a power generation business in the Republic of Singapore. Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd (hereinafter, “Sembcorp”) owns the remaining 50% shares of Senoko. Marubeni has acquired the shares of Lion Power held by the other Japanese Shareholders (hereinafter, the “Additional Investment”). As a result, Marubeni’s ownership stake in Senoko has increased from 30% to 50% and, going forward, Marubeni and Sembcorp will share joint (50%/50%) ownership of Senoko.
In addition to economic growth and increases in its population, Singapore’s electricity demand is expected to remain steady due to various governmental policies including those aimed at attracting semiconductor-related factories and data centers. Senoko has a registered generation capacity of around 2.6GW and plays a critical role in meeting electricity demand from key industries by supplying approximately 20% of Singapore’s electricity.
Through the Additional Investment, Marubeni will become more actively involved in the management of Senoko than previously and, together with Sembcorp, will continue to contribute to the stable supply of electricity in Singapore while pursuing enhancements in Senoko’s profitability and competitiveness while maximizing its corporate value.
