Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) is pleased to announce that Fujairah Power Company F3 LLC , which is jointly owned by Marubeni, Hokuriku Electric Power Company (hereinafter, “Hokuriku Electric Power”), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (hereinafter, “TAQA”), and Mubadala Investment Company (hereinafter, “Mubadala”), commenced commercial operations of the Fujairah F3 Independent Power Project (hereinafter, the “Project”), which is located in the Emirate of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.
About the ProjectThe Project involves the construction, operation, and maintenance of a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant fueled by natural gas, and the sale of the generated electricity to Emirates Water and Electricity Company (hereinafter, “EWEC”) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. With a generation capacity of 2,400 MW, it is the largest gas-fired CCGT power plant in the United Arab Emirates and achieves world-class generation efficiency.
Background and Significance While the United Arab Emirates is advancing the implementation of renewable energy sources like solar power, challenges remain with nighttime supply and rapid output adjustment load-following capability. By delivering stable power through high-efficiency generation with reduced environmental impact, the Project will support the UAE’s transition to renewable and low-carbon energy.
ProspectsMarubeni will continue to address climate change challenges in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, by ensuring a stable supply of lower environmental-impact electricity and developing energy solution businesses.
