The Marubeni Foundation (Chairman: Masumi Kakinoki) has finalized the list of grant recipients for social welfare initiatives for FY2024 (the 50th round of grants).

  • Number of Grant Applications for FY2024: 1,377 (Previous year: 1,049)
  • Number of Grants Awarded for FY2024: 148 (Previous year: 66)
  • Total Grant Amount Awarded for FY2024: 297,490,000 yen
  • Total Grants Awarded to Date (1975–2024): 3,044; amounting to 5.25 billion yen

The Marubeni Foundation was established in 1974 with financial contributions from Marubeni Corporation (hereafter, “Marubeni”), and has continued to provide grants to an annual total of 100 million yen since 1975. In consideration of the year-on-year increase in the number of grant applications and a desire to further respond to social needs in any way possible, Marubeni and the Marubeni Foundation decided to expand the grants to a total of 300 million yen to coincide with the landmark 50th anniversary of the Marubeni Foundation.

The applications were deliberated based on various factors, such as activity status, concrete outcome of the project, and degree of urgency; special consideration was given to projects which are outside the general scope of governmental reach or to unique and pioneering projects which are expected to have a ripple effect on the enhancement of social welfare while leveraging the unique benefits of these being private sector funds. This fiscal year, the Marubeni Foundation prioritized the review of projects involving organizations affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Financing for Marubeni Foundation grants is primarily handled through a cooperative framework between individuals and Marubeni. The funding is comprised of financial contributions from Marubeni and income from asset management; donations by individuals to the 100 Yen Club, a fundraising organization with a voluntary membership comprised of Marubeni Corporation and Marubeni Group executives, employees, and alumni, which are then matched by donations made by Marubeni Corporation; and Marubeni Gallery admission proceeds. The Marubeni Group and the Marubeni Foundation will continue to work towards the realization of a society which embodies the idea that “where there are people, there are dreams.”
