Marubeni has entered into an agreement with Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Hitachi Construction Machinery”) to jointly establish ZAMine Service Brasil Limitada (hereinafter, “ZAMine Brasil”), a company that will engage in mining equipment sales and maintenance services in Brazil, through ZAMine Latam Holdings (hereinafter, “ZAMHo”), a special purpose company in which both companies have a 50% stake.

 

Project Overview
Marubeni and Hitachi Construction Machinery have been collaborating since the 1970s. They have jointly established and operated mining equipment sales and services companies in Australia and Ukraine. Additionally, Marubeni’s subsidiaries and affiliated companies have been selling Hitachi Construction Machinery’s mining equipment in Peru, Chile, Colombia, and other countries. In Brazil, since 2017, Marubeni has been providing sales and services for machinery and parts to mining companies and contractors through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Marubeni Brasil S.A. Leveraging these experiences, both companies have now agreed to jointly establish a sales and maintenance services company for mining equipment in Brazil.

Background and Significance
Brazil possesses abundant mineral resources, including iron ore and bauxite, boasting some of the world’s highest production volumes. It is considered a promising market with expectations of medium to long-term growth in demand for mining equipment. With this new development, the sales and service operations currently handled by Marubeni Brasil S.A. will be transferred to ZAMine Brasil. This new company will establish a platform to provide products and services that capture diverse customer needs by combining the following:

1. Marubeni’s business management expertise and customer networks as a diversified trading conglomerate
2. Hitachi Construction Machinery’s advanced technological capabilities and know-how in building comprehensive maintenance service systems as a construction machinery manufacturer

Through this synergy, the new company aims to capture the growing demand for mining equipment in Brazil.
