Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) and Chuetsu Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Chuetsu Pulp”) have commenced sales of raw materials for cosmetics applications (hereinafter, the “Product”) using “nanoforest®,” an ACC cellulose nanofiber*1 (hereinafter, “CNF”), produced by Chuetsu Pulp.

The demand for environmentally friendly raw materials—in particular sustainable plant-derived raw materials—is increasing in the cosmetics market. CNF produced by Chuetsu Pulp uses 100% natural fibers made from domestic bamboo, including unused bamboo wood, as raw material. In addition to its facility to being supplied in a form that suits the application, this product can be blended to deliver a wide range of functions, including thickening, tactile improvement, pigment dispersion stability, detergency, moisture retention, and emulsion stability.

*1 Cellulose nanofibers made from wood fiber (pulp) that has been micronized by the aqueous counter collision (ACC) method, which harnesses the capacities of water without the addition of chemicals. CNF exhibits amphiphilic properties; namely, it has a hydrophilic surface that easily bonds with water, as well as a hydrophobic surface that easily bonds with oil.

*2 Cold process manufacturing method:
This is a manufacturing method for cosmetics and soap that does not require heating. Since no heating is required, denaturation and volatilization of active ingredients and changes in pigmentation do not occur, and products can be made while retaining the effects of the raw materials. This method is also an environmentally friendly process as it consumes less energy.
