Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) and Marubeni Metals Corporation, which is a wholly-owned corporate subsidiary of Marubeni (collectively, “Marubeni Group”), and Sanden Retail Systems Corporation (hereinafter, “Sanden RS”) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter, “MOU”) regarding supplying battery units collected from end-of-life vehicles to movable cold storage boxes, or “REVOCOOL”, which is an existing Sanden RS product.

While the number of lithium-ion batteries collected from end-of-life vehicles has been growing, the Marubeni Group is exploring the potential of the eco-friendly reuse of these batteries in order to achieve a material recycling-based society through the economical use of resources. Given this, the Marubeni Group and Sanden RS studied the feasibility of utilizing REVOCOOL for these batteries and entered into the MOU.

In addition, a prototype of REVOCOOL will be exhibited at a supermarket trade show to be held in Makuhari Messe starting on February 16, 2022.

The Marubeni Group also sees this as an opportunity to collaborate with automotive manufacturers toprovide integrated services related to the reuse of lithium-ion batteries, from collection to application development, going forward.
