Acquisition of Industrial Connector Distributor in Japan

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) is pleased to announce that, on June 30th, 2021, the company acquired 100% of the shares of Solton Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Solton”), a company that operates an industrial connector distribution business in Japan.

In the electronic component industry, growing demand is expected for all kinds of components due to the development of digital innovations such as Artificial Intelligence, 5G and electric vehicles. In addition to the increase in demand, electrical devices diversify more and more each year. As such, the demand for components, such as connectors, has also been getting more complex and diversified.

Solton provides industrial connectors mainly to domestic manufacturers. Solton’s connectors are primarily used for production sites, inspection lines and robotics in factories. They have a broad product line as well as technical staff who are experts in connectors, this enables them to provide top class technical solutions for their customers.

In December 2016, Marubeni acquired Kohno Electronics (name changed to Marubeni Ele-Next Co., Ltd. on July 1st, 2021), a company that operates a connector distribution business in Japan, thus entering the electronic component industry. With the acquisition of Solton, Marubeni will strengthen product coverage, optimize logistics, and contribute to the development of the electronic component industry.
