Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between Marubeni and ENGIE for Collaboration in Power Digital Solution

On June 21st, 2018, Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter, “MOU”) with ENGIE S.A. (hereinafter, “ENGIE”) for a collaboration in the introduction and further development of the digital solution platform system called DARWIN to be applied to renewable power plants, that are jointly operated by Marubeni and ENGIE. DARWIN is a data management platform which aims to improve the performance of its power generating facilities and develop predictive maintenance.

Marubeni and ENGIE are two of the largest IPP developers in the power sector, operating throughout the value chain of energy related businesses from upstream (fuel, generation) to downstream (energy/power related services), and have established and maintained a firm relationship as global partners in the energy and the power sector for decades. In addition to existing joint operations and businesses, Marubeni and ENGIE will collaborate in the power digital solution area, especially in terms of renewable power plants, to address the global market change driven by digitalization, de-carbonization and decentralization.
 
Marubeni will continue development and expansion of power digital solutions for renewable power plants and also for thermal power plants (which Marubeni is working on at Nakasode Clean Power (NCP)*1 and Mae Moh Coal Fired Power Plant of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)*2) in order to achieve a higher degree of efficiency and reliability, and reduce environmental impact.

*1) NCP is a Combined Cycle Power Plant located in Sodegaura-city, Chiba Prefecture and is wholly owned by Marubeni Thermal Power Co., Ltd. which is Marubeni’s wholly-owned subsidiary.
*2) EGAT is a state-owned enterprise responsible for generation and transmission of electricity and is the largest electricity company in Thailand.
