To Start Delivery of Ultra-Fast EV Chargers for Electric Vehicles in the United States
Apr. 20. 2018
Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”) will provide ultra-fast electric vehicle (“EV”) chargers manufactured by Signet EV Inc. (“Signet”) for an EV infrastructure project (“this project”) led by Electrify America LLC, (“Electrify America”), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group of America, via Marubeni America Corporation.
Electrify America is investing $2.0 billion over the next 10 years in EV infrastructure, education and access to support the increase in EV users in the United States, representing the largest commitment of its kind to date. In the first phase, Electrify America will build 484 stations with upwards of more than 2,000 individual ultra-fast EV chargers across the U.S in the next two years.
The Marubeni-Signet team will deliver more than 340 ultra-fast EV chargers for this project. At a maximum power output of 350kW, its charging speed will be seven times faster than today’s 50kW DC chargers, depending on vehicle type. As these chargers will be located in convenient places like highways we can help reduce charging anxiety, increase the number of EV users and contribute to a more carbon-free society. In addition, by adopting this newly developed power bank and charging dispenser system design, the power bank and charging dispensers can be separated allowing for wider charging stations making access easy for users.
Taking advantage of the knowledge acquired through the sales of ultra-fast EV chargers Marubeni will look to participate in electricity-related infrastructure businesses to expand the electrification of society by linking EV fast chargers, solar power generation, battery storage, and other electrification technologies.
