Entrance into the feed and broiler business in Myanmar
May. 15. 2013
Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni Corporation has reached an agreement with Nippon Meat Packers, Inc., one of the biggest ham and sausage makers in Japan, on the joint venture of feed and broiler integration. This is the first time for Japanese companies to participate in this business in Myanmar.
Marubeni’s plan is the following;
1. We will make a joint-venture contract with Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. and
key local company in Myanmar, then work on the construction of feed mills,
which have a total capacity of 200 thousand metric tons per year, broiler
parent stock production bases and commercial broiler production bases
until the end of March 2014.
2. We will start selling commercial broilers in 2015 with a target number of
approximately 6 million per year beginning 2015, and 12 million per year
by the end of March 2018.
3. Following the development of the country’s economy, we are planning to
construct a plant for processing chicken products in the near future,
completing the feed and broiler integration.
We, Marubeni, have been expanding the global procurement network of grain, mainly in the Americas and Eastern Europe. We also have a grain sales structure to major consumers such as China, Japan and ASEAN. Our trading volume accounts for 5% of the total volume traded in the world. We are looking for positive synergy on feed and livestock business in the emerging countries where significant demand is expected, accumulated by operating one of the biggest compound feed mill companies in Japan under the Marubeni Group.
Because of long-term economic sanctions, feed and livestock technology in Myanmar is still at the developing stage. The Marubeni Group and the Nippon Ham Group will work together to accomplish the supply of safe and secure livestock products by introducing advanced Japanese production technologies and traceability to the country.
