Signing a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with Qatar University

Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) agreed to provide sponsorship funds in the total amount of US$6million over a 5 year period and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Qatar University (QU). H. E. Mr. Kenjiro Monji, Ambassador of Japan in Qatar also attended/witnessed the ceremony.

Marubeni has been participating various kind of Investment Project, such as LNG, IPP, etc., and engaged in commodity trading, which includes crude oil, petroleum products, petrochemicals, etc.  We hope that through these business we can continue to contribute to the prosperity of the bilateral economic relationship between Qatar and Japan’s, and at the same time, we would also contribute to the promotion of educational and cultural exchange between both counties, which areas are included in our objective of CSR activity we are very keen on promoting all over the world.

The utilization of total US$6million will be concreted and determined by joint steering committee, which shall be established by both Marubeni and QU, but we may utilize this amount in the way to foster an understanding of Japanese culture, for example, provision of Japanese textbooks for the QU library, establishment of faculty chair in Japanese or East Asian studies, and a Qatar-Japan student cultural program.
