Contract award for revamping of Primary Dedusting System of Converters No.5 and No.6 by COSIPA in Brazil

Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”), jointly with JP Steel Plantech Co.(“SPCO”) is awarded a contract by Companhia Siderurgica Paulista (“COSIPA”), a steel company in private sector in Brazil, for revamping the Primary Dedusting System (“OG Sytem”) of Converters No.5 and No.6 to increase the efficiency of dedusting the gas discharged from the converters No.5 and No.6.
COSIPA with the steel operation based in Cubatao, Sao Paulo, is the 100% subsidiary of USIMINAS. Presently, COSIPA has the annual production capacity of 4.5 million ton crude steel. COSIPA produces the hot roll coil, cold roll coil, plate etc and distributes them mainly to the local market in Brazil. Now USIMINAS is planning to make investment up to US$1.5 billion by the end of 2010 into the improvement in the production quality to maintain its competitiveness in the local market. This project is a part of the above investment plan.
SPCO is the engineering company for mainly the steel works established by the consolidation of steel plant engineering departments of NKK Corporation, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., Hitachi Zosen Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd (“KHI”).
With the competition with European suppliers, the contract was given to Marubeni as a result of COSIPA’s consideration of Marubeni’s ability to coordinate and promote the project and SPCO’s engineering and promotion capability and rich supply experiences of OG System in Brazil.
