3R Activity with Japanese Companies at the Japan Festival in Jakarta / P.T. Marubeni Indonesia

The provincial government of Jakarta and the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia co-hosted the Japan Festival in Jakarta. On October 11, 2009, a 3R Activity was carried out as the closing event under the direction of Marubeni Indonesia. 3R is an acronym that means “Reduce Reuse Recycle”, and represents the cleaning and trash separation campaign and training that are being conducted.

This activity is carried out in cooperation with one of Marubeni’s valued customers, Fukusuke Kogyo Co., Ltd. (manufacturer of plastic bags), and other companies, under the approval and guidance of JICA experts dispatched by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan. Six staff and 20 national staff from Marubeni Indonesia took part in this activity. Fukusuke supplied trash bags, Marubeni provided carton boxes, and JICA supplied trash indication stickers. About 100 volunteers also participated in this activity.

By asking volunteers from inside and outside the group to take part, the Marubeni Group used this 3R activity as an opportunity to express its gratitude for the support Indonesian citizens have given to its businesses.

The Governor of Jakarta Province and other government officials have endorsed and shown their appreciation for this activity. In that sense, we believe that this is the first step towards realizing the 3R philosophy in Indonesia.
