Marubeni Group's View on Corporate Social Responsibility
In order for the Marubeni Group to fulfill its obligations as a member of society, in accordance with the spirit of "Fairness, Innovation and Harmony" that forms the basis of the Group's management, each and every employee in the Group needs to engage in corporate activities with a strong awareness of CSR. Furthermore, by making serious efforts for CSR activities and striving for sound management whereby we can prosperously coexist with society and the environment, we believe that the Marubeni Group will be recognized by society as a good corporate citizen, and will be able to achieve sustainable growth.
In April 2004, Marubeni's "CSR Committee" (currently the "CSR & Environment Committee") was established. Since then, we have been engaged in strengthening our CSR activities in a range of areas.
As far as specific activities are concerned, Marubeni has placed particular emphasis on the following areas:
- Achieve management transparency by strengthening corporate governance and internal controls
- Be committed to compliance and respect for human rights, which are essential for sound corporate management
- Promote development of human resources, the most valuable assets of a general trading company,
and create an efficient and comfortable working environment
- Contribute to society and the protection of the global environment, as a responsible corporate citizen
- Promote sound management and increase corporate value
Promoting CSR together with Stakeholders
In order to be a company that can achieve sustainable growth while prosperously coexisting with society and the environment, we need to maintain our value and reputation in all 3 areas of profitgenerating economic activities, society and the environment. This is what we consider to be the meaning of CSR management.
By promoting CSR management as a corporate group with the highest ethics, the Marubeni Group is striving to be an organization trusted by all stakeholders.
However, the Marubeni Group's CSR management is not something that we can achieve alone. We believe that it is essential that we first listen to the views of our stakeholders and then work together with them.
By meeting the needs of the various stakeholders shown below and earning their trust, Marubeni is building a foundation for sustainability.
Of course, all our stakeholders are equally important and therefore the order given below is not intended to reflect priority.
Customers and Business Partners
Aiming to be a company that enjoys the trust and confidence of customers and business partners, we strive to provide highly satisfying products and services, to promote fair trading, and to improve our services. Based on customer and vendor needs, after taking adequate safety considerations into account, we develop and offer products and services that we consider useful to society. Further, we constantly strive to improve satisfaction and earn trust by responding sincerely to our customers and business partners.
Shareholders
We work on securing management transparency, strengthening our disclosure regime and strengthening our group governance. We also strive to enhance corporate value by responding to changes in the business environment and maintaining stable profitability, while at the same time, also attaching great importance to environmental and societal concerns.
Society and the Environment
We aim to become a member of the local communities where we do business, and to contribute to
the creation of robust local communities. Outside Japan, we respect local cultures and customs and reinforce management that contributes to local development. Furthermore, we are firmly opposed to antisocial forces and groups that threaten the order and safety of society. We also recognize that environmental initiatives are an essential element of our activities and, as such, we take action voluntarily and proactively.
Furthermore, in addition to striving to reduce our environmental impact, we contribute to the conservation of the global environment by promoting our environment-related businesses.
Employees
We respect the individual values and life goals of each and every employee and strive to create appropriate workplace environments. We also work hard to eliminate all forms of discrimination and foster an atmosphere that is pleasant for all.
