Marubeni is making business investments in the entire paper pulp industry, including tree-planting, wood chips, pulp, paper, paperboard and recovered paper, and conducting production and trade in these fields. Marubeni is also working to be the industry leader by creating value added products in all segments to build a competitive value chain.
Marubeni has been conducting its tree planting business since the 1990s, and is now controlling four projects in three countries, which have 210,000 hectares of land for planting trees. Cut and processed chips are used as paper-manufacturing materials. Marubeni will continue to focus on securing renewable wooden resources which will continue to be re-valued in the future.
There is growing need for high-value added corrugated container products in Asia as foreign corporations expand operations. In this region, Marubeni is focusing on increasing revenues by setting industrial paper production and sales business as priority areas. The container board and box manufacturer, GS Paper & Packaging Sdn Bhd ("GSPP") in Malaysia, is steadily increasing profits, and playing the main role in Marubeni’s ASEAN business.
